What this covers

  • Supports PFX/P12 and DER/CER/CRT with KEY. A public certificate on its own only shows certificate details.
  • Format conversion and password changes require the current password. DER and KEY files read from your PC can be exported without it.
  • Results download as files. Nothing is installed into your PC certificate store and no original is overwritten.
  • Finding certificates on your PC works on Windows, macOS, and Linux. On mobile, select the file directly.
  • Expiry is shown by date only. This tool does not confirm whether a certificate has been revoked or accepted by a particular service.

About the Certificate manager

Do I need to sign in or pay?

Every feature is free and requires no sign-in. Finding certificates on your PC needs the Bolta certificate helper; selecting a file works without installing anything.

Which files should I select?

Select one PFX or P12 file, or a matching pair of a public certificate (DER, CER, CRT) and a private key (KEY). A public certificate on its own only shows certificate details. Each file must be 10MB or smaller.

What is a PFX file?

It is the PKCS #12 format, which stores a certificate and its private key together. The extension is .pfx or .p12. This tool verifies the password and then shows the contents.

My certificate does not appear in the PC list.

Check that the Bolta certificate helper is running and that your browser allows local network access. Certificates stored only on another PC or on a phone will not appear. You can select the file directly instead.

Does changing the password change the original file?

You download a new file with the new password applied. The original on your PC and any other copies keep their old password.

I forgot my password.

This tool cannot recover passwords. Contact your issuing authority to reissue the certificate.

Is my certificate sent to a server?

Certificates and passwords are handled only in your browser and on your computer. Finding certificates on your PC talks to the Bolta certificate helper running locally, and neither the file nor the password is sent to an external server.

Does it work with personal certificates?

It reads both personal and business joint certificate files. Financial certificates, security cards, and OTP devices are not the joint certificate files this tool works with.

Can I use a converted certificate everywhere?

It depends on the file formats and certificate purposes each service accepts. If the original PFX has no identity verification value (R value), some services may not recognise it. Conversion does not change the certificate purpose or expiry date.
